Okay, here we are on Monday and we are still tube-free!! Good news on two fronts: I heard back from the GI doc today who supported this trial all the way through the end of this week because Gracie didn't lose any weight over the weekend. She didn't gain any either, but not losing weight for a tube-fed kid taking only oral feeds is a HUGE deal. Ramsey and I have a notebook where we record everything that Gracie eats so I was able to give the doctor very specific info which they love ;) Today, I am happy to report, has been awesome so far. Gracie was taking between 3-5oz at each feed over the weekend, but today she has taken between 5-6oz per feed! YEESSSS!!! I just know she can do this! Actually, I must admit that the GI doc tempted me to add fortifier again, but Ramsey was the one who pointed out that everyone keeps telling us to fortify and it continues to put Gracie off of her bottle.....Isn't the definition in insanity something like, "repeating the same thing and expecting a different outcome"? But it is so easy to sway a nervous mom who wants to see her baby thrive, especially when it's a doctor trying to sway you. But I am going to go with Ramsey's gut on this one. He has totally supported every idea that I have had because I just "felt" that Gracie needed this or that- mother's intuition! Well, daddies have it too and Ramsey is a smart cookie so I think between the three of us we can kick some NG tube a$&!
The second bit of good news was the the pediatrician thought Gracie looked great today. She admitted that she would like to see Gracie higher on the growth chart (grrr- there it is again!) as she is in the 5th percentile for weight these days. But she still supported what we are doing and feels that we have some wiggle room and are not endangering Gracie's health in any way. Like I was saying to Ramsey's mom this morning- the worst thing that can happen is that the tube will go back in for a little bit longer. We obviously won't continue this trial if G loses weight. Anyway, Gracie got her second flu booster as well as the RSV vaccine today, which is lucky for us because most insurance companies won't approve the very pricy RSV shot. It will really protect her during this season, but unfortunately we have to get it every thirty days. So my role as wife, mom, nurse, feeding/occupational therapist, insurance agent, home office manager, yoga teacher, and choreographer continues! Ha! Good thing I am a theatre person- it prepares you to wear any hat and pretend to know what you are doing ;)
