Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!! And bring on the extra gravy and butter on those mashed potatoes! After a visit to the GI doc yesterday, I am literally buttering crackers to try to fatten up our little turkey ;) So I have good news and bad news. The GREAT news is that Gracie has not lost any weight since taking her tube out on Nov 4th. HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a huge thing to celebrate. She is still taking 20+ oz a day by bottle and has been really adventurous about tasting all kinds of food. She wants whatever I am eating so bring on the soy mac & cheese, coconut yogurt, hummus and avocado! The bad news is that we are stuck at this weight plateau of 14lb 5oz, 26in. She has officially fallen off of the growth curve chart so our doctors put us on probation. Boo. No pressure, right? The bottom line is, if she doesn't gain weight within the next month they will want us to put the tube back in (which is a great way to get Gracie to totally stop oral feeds- grrr...) Now, as we have seen, a LOT can happen in one month so this is a generous window (trying to stay optimistic!). And our doc's are totally rooting for Gracie. They want a happy, success story too. However, their only suggestions are to use just a bit of Duocal in everything (a tsp in each bottle, sprinkling it on her food) or to wake her up in the night for an extra feeding. Our past experience with Duocal was not great as it made her full so she just ate less, so we will try using just a tiny bit. And I have a baby that SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT and they want me to wake her up. Ugh. Hey, I will if I have to, but just because I wake her up does not mean she will want to eat or fall back to sleep. So I am not super impressed with these ideas, but I am willing to try anything. So we are crossing our fingers that Gracie starts to eat more than just a few bites of solid food, chugs her bottles and tolerates the Duocal. Don't people usually gain weight over the holidays? Wouldn't it be fun if that was your goal instead of passing on the pumpkin pie or needing a ridiculous weight loss resolution to begin the new year? Gracie's living the dream- ha! Happy Turkey Day!!!!!!!!!
